1st episode of the Beckham documentary was interesting. I like the approach of Fergie saying he wanted to build a club that brought young players through and developed them. I think people don’t realise how intentional you have to be to provide that pathway, continually as well.

I think the Fergie v Beckham clash is interesting as well. I may do some more research on the agent but apparently Fergie had a link to the agent he was recommending. May have been getting some kickback on that deal. Big Sam and Ravel Morrison had the same falling out over that.

Not sure how I feel about Ferguson protectionist approach in terms of looking after his young players. Well to an extent I like that he wanted what was doing. He definitely had the right intentions. But I think the level of detail was a bit insane and a lot of the stuff seemed unnecessary or immaterial.

But I definitely think Beckham was right to think about life after football and look after himself in that aspect.

I do love the way Roy Keane shits on Fergie any chance he gets. He has always said that the claim of him having the “clubs best interest at heart” are bullshit.

He has said before that Fergie wanted to control them all and have them use agents he was pals with. Preached about loyalty but ditched the likes of Keane, Beckham, Bruce, Robson etc. when he felt that power over them slip. Had his son play for the team when he was absolutely shite, had his brother as Chief Scout.

Publicly fell out with JP McManus and John Magnier, the 2 majority shareholders in United, over a horse that Fergie thought he was owed half the money they made off of. Leading to both of them selling their shares to the Glazers and it’s been downhill for United ever since.

JP McManus btw has since pumped his money into Limerick hurling in Ireland and turned them into the dominant team and arguably one of the best hurling sides of all time. Thank god he’s not at United anymore because he wouldn’t stand for the shitshow the Glazers have turned it into.

The documentary also seemed to hint that maybe the fact that sir Alex was Scottish (and therefore not invested in Beckham’s England career) might have played a part in the falling out, too.

i thought the doc was ace because i love david beckham but as soon as they glossed over him knobbing off other birds as ‘media attention’ it kinda lost me lol

as it relates to your point about fergie, the fact that gary neville and the rest of em even now, save for keane, can’t even talk about that time 25 years on with any objectivity really shows you the puppetry going on by bacon face

I’ve only seen the 1st 2 episodes. So I dunno where that sits on the timeline.

That’s not who we sell first though. We sell whatever the market is there for.

I mean, if they’re shopping in your position, you’ve been rendered expendable. You’ll create a market for yourself. Your agent has to.

Yeah but if we have 4 strikers and we get another. It’s not always the most expendable one that goes. It’s the one where there’s a marker and good buyer for. We’ve seen it time and again over recent years where the guys we most wanna sell don’t go.

I know Raya is looking a better fit than Rambo atm but he is not merely a ‘backup keeper’ 😭

It’s protecting value since all 3 are on good contacts

If team is desperate in Jan for GK, mid or forward example they might pay

i don’t remember the timeline of the documentary but he’s been accused of having affairs for like 20 years at least. the big one that was sort of in the doc was his personal assistant or something like that. she went to the papers about it and it was a whole scandal and in the doc it was just framed in the wider context of media harassment. obvs it’s a beckham fluff piece so i don’t necessarily blame them for it but still. was definitely stage managed
