r/soccer mods instant locking all threads on football clubs and associations showing solidarity with Israeli victims shows how much they love forums.

Side with whichever side’s propaganda gets to you, but atleast feel for innocent civilian lives on both sides of the divide.

r/soccer clearly showing they aren’t a proper sub.

It’s not a propaganda thing, it’s a ‘there are far too many users here with bad faith hot takes and taking time to moderate every single interaction in the thread is silly given we’re unpaid volunteers’ thing.

Stuff like this should be talked about with actual political and historical experts who know what they’re talking about, or with your friend group where everyone can be assumed to be talking in good faith.

A football sub is poorly equipped to talk about it, so locking those threads make sense. There’s elsewhere on Reddit if you really feel the need to talk about it.

You know what, this is as good a take as I’ve seen around these parts. Sincerely.

I will say though that if this is the direction reddit mods take, it’s a fair one but then needs to be blanket applied across the sub.

Posts talking about good faith shown because players stopped for Ramadan prayers also usually attract horrendous takes from the anti-muslim crowd, must also then be locked.

The double standards is then upsetting for a forum that is open to discussion. No?

I mean you didn’t need the middle east to tell you that

I think Reddit in general has been piss poor lately. It’s become the old Twitter, Twitter (X) has just become absolutely garbage though.

With regards to the events happening, you’re either branded an anti semite or a Islamophobic, no in between. Zero nuance. Even saying ‘Hamas is a terrorist organisation that should be wiped out, but the Israeli apartheid also needs to stop’ gets you murdered from both sides. You can’t reason.

As for football clubs, I really think they should always remain neutral and only make statements relating to football. Making a statement about what happened in Israel (which was terrible) will just open a can of worms like the people in Myanmar saying ‘where’s our solidarity’, Sudan, Yemen, Nigeria, Uyghurs, Somalia, Senegal… thousands die in these places, yet you have zero clubs making statements.
