You know I feel his case should always have the long term injury in context. He was away for a very long time and the same time the project went bang- that’s gotta take same time. I’d argue both himself and the staff should give him e longer than they’d give any other player. He’s shown enough to make it a worthwhile gamble. Vieira missed the preseason and took a year to start performing consistently and at the level required from him, for reference

How long are we gonna use that excuse? He returned from Injury in Like January 2023. Until he plays matches more hes gonna struggle to get match sharpness.

EDIT - in fact, transfermarkt says he was available from the end of November.nsondn near an entire year he’d been back now.

Idk if there’s a better way to get him game time than what Arteta is doing atm. He’s subbed in in most games (City and one of the recent games being an obvious exception) and starting cup games. Maybe securing CL knockouts or seeing out games early will do him good. I personally don’t count the end of last season for obvious reasons

Vieira performing is by itself a good reason to cut ESR loose… it will be difficult if not impossible to find playing time for both. Eventually we need to choose one of them and cut the other one.

I see Vieira-ESR or Trossard-ESR as the alternative to Ødegaard-Havertz or Ødegaard-Rice midfields. Between Vieira and ESR one of them has to replicate some of Xhaka/Havertz role and imo it’s likely expected from ESR. Especially if Rice is on the pitch who likes the left half space. Though imagine our two “g/a merchants” playing in a comparatively low stakes/“easier” game, maximum entertainment but not exactly Arteta so i get why you say that

Listen, I lived in the UK when I was a child for about 5 years but I’ve spent most of my life in the US, so I’m not going to pretend like I know too much about the political environment there other than what I’ve seen from the internet.

But if the pro-Israel lobby in the UK is as aggressive it is in the US (and believe me it’s aggressive), then there isn’t really an equivalence. Yeah radical student activists and academics tend to support Palestine. Meanwhile the both leaders of the democrats, republicans, labour, and tories are staunch supporters of Israel. There are 2 laws on the books in the US that criminalize BDS, a nonviolent movement.
