CW: Violence (state-violence and discussion of suicide)

Victor Manuel Diaz died at ICE-run Camp East Montana in Texas on January 14. It was the second death at the detention facility in as many weeks, and at least the fourth death of a person in ICE custody in the first four weeks of the year. In 2025 at least 32 people died in ICE custody, which is the highest number in decades.

ICE spokespeople claimed that both Diaz and Geraldo Lunos Campos, who died at the facility on January 3rd, committed suicide. We know [that] ICE lies and [that] the truth must come out.

In Campos’ case, The Guardian quotes an eyewitness who told the Washington Post he saw five guards choking Campos while Campos called out that he couldn’t breathe. According to the Guardian, ICE spokespeople only started alleging that Campos committed suicide after the Washington Post published its report. Now, an autopsy finds that Geraldo Lunos Campos was murdered by guards.

May their memories be a revolution.
