Why waste time hovering your eyes to find the spot you left that one icon when you can press the window hotkey and immediately search for whatever program you wanted instead
Exactly. I doubt they use only those 7 on the desktop. Which means they do that for any other application anyways. So why not for those 7 as well? Are those special applications that are used more often? Great, just pin them to the panel.

I like having software icons, if I can’t see something I won’t remember about it
Or even better, make a keyboard shortcut.
