    The government in Star Trek arose after a period of severe calamity and devestating global war. I think if you look at Europe post WWII through to today, there’s a general trend that those regions most devestated by war were able to be built back under more modern ideals, even if it’s not perfect.

    Not suggesting that apocalypse is the answer, but I think that entrenched power and systems are what create the biggest roadblock to anything approaching the kind if egalitarian type civilization like Star Trek. And even if you removed those systems, you would need the right people to lead humanity out to something better, as opposed to conservative leaders who would take us backwards again.

    Powers like the US and China will need to fail in the long run I think for humanity to have a chance, they’re too committed to the current paradigm.
