My son has a bag which he takes with him to Kindergarten every day. I’d like to throw in something like an Apple AirTag to be able to see where the bag is, but I have a couple of requirements:

  • No subscription
  • Should work in South Korea (AirTag does not work here)
  • Sometimes it’s me who brings hem to Kindergarten and I have a Android phone, sometimes it’s his mom with a iPhone
  • It should be somehow connectable to HomeAssistant as a device tracker to see where the bag is (or at least if it’s at home or not)

Any ideas what would work?

I live in South Korea and AirTag definitely works? Didn’t know it doesn’t. I thought it did because you can get one. Bummer.

btw, I suggest you get Samsung Smart tag. They’re basically Samsing equiv. of an AirTag. I assume it will work equally well as an AirTag since there’s more Samsung devices around here. It’s also connectable with HA.

Is it really connected? I can’t get “find my phone” connected to HomeAssistand so I assumed they both work with the same software which does not have an open API.

The no subscription thing is going to be a hard thing to do. There may be ones that don’t cost anything but you will still have to make an account with the company to use.

What I would do is search for a GPS tag system and then see if some have HA integrations.

There are some Samsung ones or even random 3rd party ones.

I don’t know enough about the to give you more help, good luck and hope you get what your looking for.

By subscription I meant paying periodically, it’s not any important functionality that’s why I don’t want to pay for it all the time. One time is ok.

Totally understand and agree. Just trying to clarify since some people don’t like to create online accounts if they can prevent it. (Kind of with them for the most part)

Since GPS systems would generally require an online account I wanted to specify that.
