You have spoken: the community shave will take place on July 17th (the 3rd Wednesday of July)!
But we still have to pick to soap. Every soap will get their own comment, and if you want to vote for this soap, please comment below the soap nomination with something indicating your approbation. You can vote for several soaps; in case of a tie, we will figure something out.
Heads-up, the Swiss Post somehow shit the bed with the samples. Usually it takes one week for a letter from here to the US and I’ve sent the samples to @gcgallant@sub.wetshaving.social, @walden@sub.wetshaving.social, and @whosgotthepudding@sub.wetshaving.social on July 3rd, but they stayed in Zürich for a week and only reached US customs yesterday. I’m sorry about that.
I’m not sure whether they’ll make it to you in time. If not, I propose that we wait for everyone to have their sample and postpone the inaugural BVWSC. Thoughts?
I’ll send you your individual tracking info in PM.
Also tagging @PorkButtsNTaters666@sub.wetshaving.social, @sahenders@sub.wetshaving.social, and @DaveWave94@sub.wetshaving.social, so that we can all agree.
Hopefully, they will move quickly, but I’ve no issues with waiting for everyone to get the soap.
🙏
A postponement due to the post makes sense. Is that where the word postpone comes from I wonder?
Lol, calling subject matter expert @PorkButtsNTaters666@sub.wetshaving.social to get nerdsniped on the different etymologies of post as in postal service and post as in postpone.
Post as in postal service seems to come from the Latin “positus”, meaning “placed” or “stationed”. Dixit Perplexity:
This refers to the system of relay stations or “posts” set up along routes to deliver messages and mail. In ancient times, postal systems relied on a series of stations where horses and riders could be changed to speed up long-distance communication. These stations were called “posts”.
The term “post” originally referred to the system and infrastructure for delivering mail, rather than the mail itself. It came to mean both the system and the items delivered over time.
Post as in postpone is a Latin preposition meaning ‘after’ or ‘later’.
I’m fine with postponing for a week, and I would certainly prefer to do the shave together as planned. But that means that we should probably plan longer ahead for next time – maybe launch the prep for September soon?
maybe launch the prep for September soon?
Yep, that’s probably smart
I have no issues with waiting. The US Customs and USPS can be unpredictable as well. Perhaps for future shaves we can have distribution services on both sides of the Atlantic.
That requires at least one owner of the chosen soap on either side, which won’t always be the case if ever
Honestly that’s kinda what my concerns were with DHL/german postal services, unfortunate that it also happened with Swiss Post now. Personally I agree that your proposal makes the most sense - let us wait until everyone has their samples and we can do the Wetshaving Social Club all together. Perhaps last Wednesday of every month isn’t such a bad idea either?
Yeah, let’s see how long this takes
We have a winner, and it’s a mentholated soap for July!

The soap was proposed by @djundjila@sub.wetshaving.social. We need to make sure he knows our addresses, so that he can send the smushes out. (If there is someone on the other side of the pond with some Don José, we could maybe share the burden).
~I translated ranks into numbers: 7 points for the highest rank, and down to 1 point for the last ranked element). Anyways, I don’t believe that the precise way of calculating have any importance here; the results seem rather clear~
Hello, I have everyone’s address except for @walden@sub.wetshaving.social (unless the others moved since our last correspondence).
So if that concerns you or you are Walden, please pm me your details and i and off the smushes (ideally on the linked matrix account)
Shall we also send smushes to @whosgotthepudding@sub.wetshaving.social and @DaveWave94@sub.wetshaving.social?
I’ve already reached out to pudding about his address, and maybe @sahenders@sub.wetshaving.social can send dave a smush since they are in the same country and he has a tin and offered he could help
Absolutely, just PM addresses for anyone who still needs a smush.
@DaveWave94@sub.wetshaving.social
I’m really sorry that I missed your comment!
PM is on the way, I’d gladly partake 👍🏻
No worries, I’m just glad you’re joining the shave next month!
It’s not my case, but FYI I don’t see a linked matrix account for you, contrary to @gcgallant.
Huh! Must have gotten deleted during our db shenanigans! Fixed now
I’m glad you said something, looks like mine isn’t linked anymore either.
Fixed now.
I don’t know if mine is visible; if not: how do you link a matrix account?
Of course we picked the most expensive soap which is banana scented.
Obviously – we may be monkeys, but sophisticated ones 🙄
Abbate Y La Mantia: Don José
3rd ranked
1st ranked vote. I have not tried an AYLM soap and would like to try one even though this one has menthol.
1st ranked vote.
I have a different AYLM soap and the scent is very interesting. I’m guessing his other scents are good, too.
Third-ranked vote
Le Père Lucien: Narcisse

3rd ranked vote
Fourth-ranked vote
Dr. Jon’s Runaway
Any of the Dr. Jons will work as my 4th ranked vote.
Fifth-ranked vote
Barrister and Mann: Roam Two
2nd ranked vote. Ideally, I’d like to stay away from the well-known US artisans, and try artisans that may not be as well known on r/Wetshaving.
My top-ranked vote
4th ranked
@PorkButtsNTaters666@sub.wetshaving.social I’m unpinning this post now. Once everyone gets their smushes and the event draws near we’ll pin a new one.
Sure, thanks!
Barrister and Mann: Pencil Pusher
I’m least interested in this one.
