It’s a fair criticism. On the other hand, China is the world’s largest exporter. They are even Taiwan’s largest trade partner despite the known bad blood.
I read the articles you shared and the points made all seemed very reasonable? They want to emulate how Israel achieved independence due to military strength, in light of the tension between them and China. They’re also just kinda dragged along in the wake of US policy, cuz Taiwan is more or less forced to have good relations with them, also due to China.
With trump trying to remove taiwans silicon shield, and the recent example of HK, I don’t blame Taiwan for being skittish and adopting a more hawkish attitude.
I was always taught to not let your dislike for someone prevent you from learning from them - if they do something well, they do something well. I think that applies here.
