I’m not sympathetic to people who see the stats of how many women are assaulted daily and go “I don’t see the problem here.”

These are generally 20-40 year olds who run around attacking people online and pushing back anytime a marginalized group is advocated for. Why should they get priority over the people who need help? Why do marginalized groups never get to express how unheard they feel/get to be blunt? I mean, look at this thread! You have people whose immediate response was “women do bad things too.” I am all for using the carrot and approaching people with empathy, but don’t think for one second there aren’t people who will abuse that kind instinct and use it as cover.

Did any of them ever stop and ask why so many women resonated with the bear comment?

It’s about how unsafe women feel. I am a white male, I didn’t take the bear thing personally because I have the sense to recognize not everything is about me. Some men are very dangerous and a lot of women are rightfully afraid of them. The stats on violence against women perpetrated by men tell a very distressing story. Many women do not feel safe and they found a way to express that feeling.

    It isn’t always about you.
