Early on, Medals of Honor were passed out like candy. In the Civil War, a unit of men was awarded for actions that took place after they demobilized. In 1917 an Army Medal of Honor inquiry stripped 911 medals from the “undeserving”. This includes the only female recipient, who was a surgeon in the Civil War and POW after she crossed the lines to treat civilians.

The country is being run by people who are indistinguishable from the 13yo edgelord boy who got banned from your Call of Duty server for overusing the n-word

Not at all. The 13-year old is a hormonal brat that doesn’t have the years under their belt. They’re still growing and learning how their actions affect others. They should know better, and often do, but we give leeway to children because fucking up is part of growing and learning.

The men and women currently in charge have no such excuse.

Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee by Dee Brown, and A Cry From the Heart by William Sears should be required reading in sophomore year.

“For this 1890 campaign, the U.S. Army awarded 31 Medals of Honor, 19 specifically for service at Wounded Knee.[7][8][56] 18 were awarded in the months after the massacre, and two more awarded in 1893 and 1897 respectively.[57]”

Why weren’t these medals pulled 100 years ago?

Because when troops fuck up, you can either own it or give them a medal and call it a win.

It’s very common, there’s a lot of highly decorated war criminals out there

The Nazis aren’t even pretending anymore. I remember arguing with someone online long ago when I was younger who spouted mysoginistic comments. I don’t remember his exact comments and words but I told him those views are Nazi views and then he threw the usual “you can’t call someone you disagree with a Nazi”. But he repeats some of Nazi-like slogans, anyway, in caps clock. I kept calling him out on it and retorted that that he’ll wear the insult like a badge of honour, even though he implicitly insists he’s not Nazi but throws Nazi-like slogans anyhow.

I was bewildered why would he say he’s not a Nazi but says Nazi stuff anyway. Looking back now and where the world is heading, it was their psyops attempt to inject Nazi and fascist ideas to re-normalise them, while putting plausible deniability through bad faith arguments, during the time when it was very much taboo to be openly fascist. Now, they are coming out of the woodwork because Trump first enabled, then allowed them.

    MAKE NAZIS AFRAID AGAIN

The trick is that it both is and isn’t. For all the places where these clowns lack substance, these are the core ideas, playbooks, and slogans they adhere to. The names and branding are thrown away, that’s all. It’s all Nazism with the serial numbers filed off.

To be fair, I am almost certain that Pete here doesn’t actually know what happened at Wounded Knee. He knows there was a ‘battle’, and that there were ‘Injuns’ involved. Probably was that some patriotic Americans defended themselves against the savage natives, like in the cowboy movies! Those cowboys deserve their medals!

Of course, now that the US secretary of defence has tweeted his ignorance on a social media platform, there is no taking it back, or apologising for his misunderstanding. He can only double down and defend a massacre.

Nah, he knows. It’s about drawing outrage because that’s the only thing that wins them credit any more with their base.

Yep this is the same bullshit as renaming bases after random privates with the same name as confederate generals to change it back, just keeping up the brand consistency

    Jesus fucking Christ

got crucified by believers, and Liberals washed their hands off the innocent murders.

But yes, this is how the “Protect the Children!!” party actually praxis: Gunning them and raping the corpses.
