          You’re implying that because something is an opinion, you don’t need to defend it on the forum where you went to share said opinion.

          Who is getting scammed when two people get legally joined? Some adults actually need the legal recognition for property purposes, you know.

          In a lot of countries, if your legal spouse dies, you get their shit, whereas if it’s not a legally recognised union, the family (parents/siblings) of the dead person would have more claim to their stuff than the spouse.

            Happened all the time in the US before gay marriage was legalized. One partner would die and their bigoted family which disowned the deceased decades prior would suddenly have the full legal authority to take everything and leave the surviving loved one with nothing
