Basic community norms stuff:

Be accepting of others - no racism, homophobia, transphobia, religious intolerance, etc.
We all love rats, and hate to see a rat unhappy or in danger. Be patient with each other, and assume good intentions. People are more open to improving their pet care when those educating them do so with the understanding that they might not have known any better.
This is a rat group, so all posts should be about rats, and rat-positive. (If wild rats are causing you trouble, please post in a different magazine. Also take a look at birth control for wild rodents: https://conntraceptol.com/conntraceptol-for-rats)

Rat stuff:

No photos of pet rats outside, or discussing taking pet rats outside. (Photos of wild rats you see outside are okay.) Rats have prey instincts and don’t enjoy visiting new places totally different from their home. The outdoors is also very dangerous for them - a cat, dog or hawk could snatch a pet rat in a second, or they could become sick from microbes then encounter outside. If you’d like to give your rats the “outdoor experience”, growing some barley grass or other rat safe plants in a dig box for them is much safer.
No interpecies interaction. Rats are both prey and predators, so other pets are usually terrifying to rats, and may also be terrified of rats. Every other animal can either seriously injure a rat, be seriously injured by a rat, or both. Please keep them separate so all your pets can be relaxed and safe.
Do not encourage keeping rats alone for extended periods. Every rat should have a friend. Aggression in rats indicates the rat experiences very high stress whether it is with others or alone, preventing them from living a happy life - the only kind option is to put them to sleep.
