This is just really highly subjective. The US is a huge outlier since your social safety net sucks ass. Your life literally depends of your employer giving you health insurance but the rest of the world is also not that much better.

With the end of the udssr capitalism lost all motivation to proof that it can give workers a better life than communism so it started to become what it was destined to.

A 9-5 regardless of sector was guaranteed to give you a life worth living, your own house, sending your kids to college, a good pension, enough food and some luxeries. Helping the company succeed directly benefitted the worker and the worker could also often be PROUD of what they made collectivly. (obviously not true for all of human history, and we can obviously discuss the ethics of any production across time but true enough for this discussion and the time 9-5 started to be a thing)

Now all the money is going to the top, while you can still have a decent life in some sectors it is much harder. The dream of owning your home is out of reach for many, it feels like just surviving and not living. There is zero loyalty towards workers.

So a 9-5 today means giving away your lifetime to a heartless coporation doing shit that benefits no one and still die off a preventable diseas in your 2000 dollar roach infested apartment OR you can do odd jobs with less “security” and at least live your life before you meet the same end.

There are a lot of jobs you can do though that pay good enough money and are still flexible where you don’t feed the orphan crushing machine too much and are almost always in demand. You can work and travel, work in the event sector, hospitality or do something in the art sector. I know people managing weed farms getting high every day, traveling yoga teachers, artists who do odd jobs on the side or people who build their own small businesses where they don’t have to work that much anymore and so on and so forth. But it shouldn’t be on us to find meaningful work, the economy should work for us not the other way around.

Most of them have a antisocial personality disorder come from middleclass homes that are not very involved and they are male without friends. If you are interested in the stats of it all please read up on it, it is interresting but they don’t really explain why there are more shooters in the us than elsewhere, we all have narcissists and uninvolved parents.

I think it is very likely that the culture plays a bigger role than the access to guns. The US shitty gun laws are a symptom of a shitty culture towards violence as a whole. You have this glorification of the individualistic male violent archetype with guns, may it be the military, media or real life people and people with certain mental disorders will latch unto that and internalize this as powerful. (videogames STILL don’t cause real life violence i am talking about the lived culture not media as the scapegoat)

My guess is they feel towards their victims like normal people feel towards inanimate objects who fail them. We don’t function like they want us to or better they didn’t get what they feel like they DESERVE from us and since they are the individualistic, strong main character, we deserve whats coming.

Meh i agree that the situations aren’t the same but the hostage situation explanation just falls flat on its face as soon as you imagine people in your own country being involved on the side of the terrorists. This should not matter, i know we pay by the hour but in reality you pay your employees to get a job done and you pay the manager to make sure the job gets done in time. If the employee does not get their job done than you can fire them regardless from where they didn’t get it done. People waste tons of time in the office too.

Honestly me too. And YES i am biased as hell here. I don’t like people in general and my objective opinion is that power will attract the wrong people regardless of gender.

BUUUT my subjective experience will not let me believe that women in charge would not change things for the better overall. From a purely curious place i would really like to see how it would work out, a failure would be just as interresting to me as a success.

I want to add that i also believe the main problem of patriachy is not the oppression of women but the oppression of “female” coded traits. What i would really like to see is a society that favors empathy and collaboration, i don’t need women in charge for that and i certainly don’t base my support for anyone on their genitals, that would be crazy.

What we want people to be is good and being actually good not just pleasent to be around takes work, it means to not react to your base instincts, it means introspection, it means weighing your wants and needs against the needs of others, it means sacrafice.

Its very easy to say immigrants are solely responsible for their situation so they should deal with it themselves. It is much more complicated to learn about the realities and nuances of their lived reality.

For an example if you have an aggressive dog you can either just shoot it or you take on the responsibillity of training it which means you have to learn about training, invest time and energy to do so and put yourself at risk while doing so and at the end the dog might still bite you.

Raising people to be good takes much more energy and willpower than speaking to their base instincts.

No it doesn’t. You have a two party system which makes things much more complicated.

1. Corporate dems are payed by their donors to keep the left at bay, if they do it through policy while in power or through playing opposition doesn’t matter that much.
2. As long as you have only two parties people have nowhere to go, there will not be enough pressure to change the party.
3. A low voter participation does not lead to systemic change, it leads to even less democracy overall
4. If you believe democrats would move to the left through less voters than the same would be true for republicans when we elect democrats.
5. You are not the majority, the voters show us again and again that they will not stand behind progressives in big enough numbers. This does not only go for the US but worldwide.
6. If you do not vote you still carry blame, Gaza might have looked the same but people wouldn’t get shot in the street by ice. Governtment agencies wouldn’t be reduced to a minimum and so on and so forth. There is real world harm done by republicans right now and if you go back Nixon and reagen did immense damage to the country to this day.

Its just not that easy if your activism is reduced to “not voting” than it is completely meaningless.

People can be hateful AND other things. They aren’t raging monsters but for one reason or another when making one of the most important desicions they let themselves be guided by hate, doesn’t mean they don’t love their dog or hug their kids.

You slso don’t need to put all the blame on them, propaganda is a powerful tool,they might very well have turned out fairly decent without it. They aren’t born like that but it doesn’t change what they have become.

I think it goes deeper than that. We have a problem with hierachical thinking in general. We expect our kids to follow their leaders, without question, there is little room for kids to participate in society in a meaningful way.There is no way for them to change anything.

Than they get to an abitrary age and we expect them to suddenly transition to involved voters.

I don’t believe that people raised to question why a system works how it works, who were allowed to argue , whos curiousity got rewarded, who simply had a real voice in their upbringing, would have fallen for him.

They would have learned that things are more complicated and they would trust themselves more to be able to change society than they would trust authority to fix things for them.

Its not on us to “forgive” her. I don’t know why people feel like they personally got victimized by her. From all accounts she was a loving mother, the people that actually knew and loved the kids are supporting her bc they are certain she must have been insane at the time.

I start by telling you i am already participating in ethical consumption for decades you know what changed? Nothing.

1. The adcreep isn’t the main problem our economy rewards cut throught capitalism.There are already enough reasons to stop buying shit but people keep doing it.
2. Second Hand, i already by almost exclusivly second hand and so many others do that so second hand prices where raised so much that it often isn’t cheaper anymore. If second hand became so popular that the industry needs to react they will just addcreep for “second hand”
3. Repairing things is easier said than done, things aren’t made to last long, repairing them is very timeconsuming if you have no idea how it is done. Spending money and freetime on something that you can just buy new for cheap is unrealistic on a bigger scale.
4. buying from smaller brands from where? Any supermarket belongs to a megacorp. Just research what brands belongs to which supercorp. You almost can’t escape it. And even if you buy from small unifiliated brands once they get too popular big corp is just scooping them up.

I could go on and on but the main problem is that you would need a critical amount of people doing the same as you and they will not people will take the easiest way and you can be mad about it but you shouldn’t blame them. The crux of the issue is how the economy works. We need regulation that forces companies to act responsible anything else is doomed to fail. I am not saying don’t consume ethical where you can but if you want to really have an impact you need to focus on politics.

I think we should put the blame where it belongs. Insta and all other plattforms have massive amounts of power and reach. They make more money from their users than the other way around. Its also not just artists livlyhoods on the line. With that level of power we need to inforce respinsibillity as well.

We should always stand with the people with us in the mud and demand responsibillity from those who have actual power. Just assume that everybidy in your class is doing their best and will probably be more deserving of your support. They want you to blame the creators don’t help them.

Reframe it, like sure you are not doing anything bad but these companies don’t care about criminal or evil behaviour. For them you are like livestock you only serve one purpose: making them money, there are no morals involved. They would sell your data to absolutely anyone for any reason! YOU can’t think of anything bad they could do with your data because YOU are not evil but THEY absolutely are. If an evil person wants your data you shouldn’t give it to them because they WILL find a way to use it against us, its a law of nature just like gravity.

I don’t really understand why we can’t give each other a little bit of grace. It sounds like everyone believes the “other side” is downright evil which begs the question what are we even fighting for ?

There is no perfect not even a good choice to make here. On the one hand republicans are extremly dangerous and everything they fuck up can’t be easily repaired, you still suffer from the policychoices under reagan but on the other hand democrats are very complicit but they at least give room for positive development.

I can’t be mad at people not feeling great about electing someone that supports israel but Palestians are probably worse off now than they would be under kamala but than again how can we expect the party to change when they get votes simply for being not as bad.

We should focus on the real problem which is a antidemocratic voting system. You can be as mad as you want about your countrymen and the democratic party but as long as you don’t have a real choice and megadonors the problems will remain, the most important part is to rally as many people as you can behind a shared believe not necessarily convince them to share all of yours.

I almost never see discussions about how to actually make your country a democracy, only infighting. In theory it would be relativly simple to impliment these changes, practically it is obviously complicated and an uphill battle but it is certainly more practical and unifying than shitting on each other.

Don’t you think the pay is comparable enough because they kinda have to match the unionionized shops?
