  • The United States is in decline. Has been a log while. It’s not just political propaganda. If anything Trump accelerated the process and made it more evident. And honestly, maybe that is a good thing.

The economy in the States is self cannibalizing, removing value to extract wealth from middle class, or sell nik naks to richer folks. There is not infostrucure for electricity, services. Everything is stuck to the 70s/80s. Look at the AI datacenters situation there. American companies are well deep into inshittification, and hardware manufactures are being rapidly outpaced by progress and development from their Chinese counterparts.

As an individual you have no rights, food kills you, health care is not existing unless you are in the golden path.

The amount of unhoused people is staggering, people that do actually have a job, but they are forced to live in a car. And worse part of it all? They could fix it. They could make it a great place. They have money, skills, resources to do so. But they decided to not do that. To allow rich folks to buy yet another island.

You can say a lot of things about China. But travel to their “rich” cities. Comprare them to USA’s ones. As see how prosperity really looks like.

  • Man it’s so funny how the only company that even thinks about allowing you to not have AI, gets so much shit from people.

OK you don’t like AI, you can turn in off. They added an option for that. Meanwhile Chrome is automatically downloading 4gb worth of models without your consent. Same with basically each other browser.

Folks are free to use whichever distro they like, Librefox, Waterfox, but remember that without Mozilla foundation the very engine would stop working. Then these forks will not work anymore. Then where will you go? Chromium? Safari?

It’s important to keep companies accountable, but nothing is ever black and white.

  • I am having a great time exploring the Fediverse and of course having a blast here in Lemmy. That said I have found a lot of limitations as well that makes the Fediverse work “for real” when you want to go in deep into the federation part of it. For example I was really trying to move away from instagram and I wanted to create my own instance of Pixel fed. The expectation is that I have my own instance in the fediverse I can own and I can connect to the rest of the network. The reality is that from your little bubble you can’t see old posts from accounts on other servers. Only new ones. Which does not really make it work for real. There are plenty of other use cases that work better, but assuming that’s the “only way” and it’s perfect is not being fully honest. A lot of people like to shit on ATproto, but it’s a protocol that feels less extreme on federation and more friendly on the “normal person” usability part of it. Every person have their own needs in the end.
