Political Memes@lemmy.world•I think am starting to see why so many leftists dislike liberals
1·1 day agoAlso it’s ugly as shit
Look it in the eye and say that.
- Consider Nextcloud instead of Syncthing. This gives you options for a Google Docs replacement, too.
- Nextcloud notes is a pretty good Keep replacement, too (if you just need simple notes)
- SearXNG is great for seach, and includes DDG
- Love Osmand for hiking/etc, but Organic Maps is a bit better for navigation unless you do some major config changes in Osmand
If self-hosting:
- Nextcloud can manage users/calendar, etc, too
- Immich is more battery efficient than Ente, since the AI is server side. But only for self hosting since no E2E
- Skip Proton for things like self-hosted Vaultwarden. Why use another centralized service?
Starvation is not contagious.
This meme fails to show the seriousness of the issue.
This is true of any window, thermodynamics. Put the foil outside and it will work better. There is a reason shutters are on the outside.

1·3 days agoMy partner and I are into gravel, akd she’s been seriously considering a steel frame.
Also, cross post to cycling! Those communities need love.

politics @lemmy.world•House Democrats’ anxiety rises after wins by Mamdani-backed candidates: ‘Are we going to let them take over the party?’
19·3 days ago“If you ask me, it was not a good night for New York,” Rep. Greg Meeks, a powerful New York Democrat who is close with House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, told CNN…
… Meeks added: “Instead of us making sure we put all of our resources to fight Republicans and to fight Donald Trump, we’re using it to fight each other. It just doesn’t make common sense to me.”
So close to a revelation…
On this one, you can even run your own spyware! https://lemmy.world/comment/24461999
Yup. My comment covering the MITM: https://lemmy.world/comment/24461999
Probably bad stuff.
This appears related to Quo, since the JSON schemas point there.
They use a broker, a MITM for AI requests, which filters out sensitive data before it goes to OpenAI, but not before it’s at their server.
You can see the URL Android calls here: https://github.com/secondly-com/OpenPhone/blob/83e31fd6ec9da94ba299465fc28ad7c6aa677326/overlay/packages/apps/OpenPhoneAssistant/src/org/openphone/assistant/state/AssistantViewModel.kt#L175
The MITM Python server here: https://github.com/secondly-com/OpenPhone/blob/83e31fd6ec9da94ba299465fc28ad7c6aa677326/services/model-broker/openphone_model_broker.py
The tests of the middleman: https://github.com/secondly-com/OpenPhone/blob/83e31fd6ec9da94ba299465fc28ad7c6aa677326/scripts/smoke-test-model-broker.sh
And the nginx proxy and full deployment, in case you want to do some self-spying: https://github.com/secondly-com/OpenPhone/tree/83e31fd6ec9da94ba299465fc28ad7c6aa677326/services/model-broker/deploy
Edit: Keep in mind this is the public facing version. OTA updates are prebuilt from who knows where, and the broker may have more code than is in the public Python file.
Why is this a fork of another project?
The original repo is: https://github.com/secondly-com/OpenPhone and is ahead of the above posted fork.
Edit: Analysis with identification of a MITM: https://lemmy.world/comment/24461999

Fuck AI@lemmy.world•DuckDuckGo’s AI Feature Is Telling Users That Trump Died of Rabies Earlier This Month

Technology@lemmy.world•If Phones Are Killing Pedestrians, Why Is It Only Happening in America?English
1·4 days agoMaybe, but it’s probably a lot more to do with infrastructure. European drivers are used to pedestrians being everywhere, North American’s aren’t.
It would be interesting to see a comparison between cities and rural locations.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•What do you think about the dead internet theory?
1·4 days agoBeyond the technical aspect, I don’t see how this is feasible. There are few sites out there supporting just 1.1, and the population using HTTP won’t likely create more. While those using alternatives continue to.
Both sides.

Technology@lemmy.world•California drivers sue gas stations for allegedly using AI to inflate pricesEnglish
1·5 days agoNo, but…
The lawsuit in the Sacramento federal court said the scheme violated assembly bill 325, a California law that took effect on 1 January and was intended to crack down on algorithmic price fixing.
You need a law to back it, and a proof point (in this case, a centralized AI company just like the rent collusion lawsuit).

Not a dumb question at all. For racists groups in the US, POC is for the most part broadly defined as “not white, unless they’re hot”. The Petter G meme with the card is pretty much on point.
It’s much more nuanced for anyone else.
