And then trying to explain the concept that the problem is not about what to do, but how to do it feels like teaching quantum computing to a slice of toast.

anxiety advice sucks ass as well. proper medication is all that meaningfully worked for me, not fucking yoga or a healthy breakfast or somehow outthinking my brain cooking itself

Indeed. It doesn’t help that anxiety has multiple causes, some of which overlap and compound each other. I couldn’t have gotten a handle on my anxiety without medication, but in my case I also couldn’t have done it without a great therapist who took the time to get to know me and help me learn the various factors that were contributing to my particular stew of neuroses. Telling me to just breathe or exercise or meditate would not have done shit for me although ironically all of those things are part of my routine now but only after a long road of trial and error and practice.

The truly fucking brutal one: “How are you out of ADHD meds, just pick up the phone, call your doctor to make an appointment, attend said appointment, make sure the script goes to the right pharmacy and then just pick up your prescription! It’s so simple, it should be a cake walk to do even when you’re out of medication.”

Until I moved to Canada (where getting my meds refilled became a phone call immediately followed by a walk to the pharmacy) I lived in constant fear that I’d fall off my meds and death spiral as I’ve had several close calls in the past.

(Also this isn’t meant to imply that medication is the sole solution for everyone, but it works exceedingly well for me).
