This is what they voted for: https://youtu.be/NpBPm0b9deQ?t=430
They voted for an old dying man because they are morons who felt that anyone to the left of him was “too radical”. That was stupid. That was foolish. That was selfish. People should feel absolutely ashamed for voting for Biden in the 2020 primaries.
Actions have consequences.

Are you under the impression anyone without the backing of the DNC has a chance in the primaries? Anyone who wanted to challenge Biden should have been posturing long ago. Your community of 15,000 people who support someone else aren’t going to overcome the swath of voters who only get the news from CNN.
You didn’t even name who his replacement should be in your own post.
Sounds like you don’t need our votes then. 🤷♂️
No, we understand he’s hot garbage, but he’s the garbage from disposing of organic matter, trump is the nuclear waste that makes a Geiger counter go wild.
What I’m saying is, we know he’s trash, but he’s less harmful than the other trash. I don’t vote for him because I like him, I vote for someone like him for harm reduction.
Then why are you trying to suppress a conversation where we can tell the people who voted for hot garbage “Hey assholes, you voted for hot garbage!”
Who’s suppressing? I just want people to vote for the harm reduction candidate. There is no way currently to do that without voting for the primary democratic candidate.
The system is fucked, but it’ll take more than words online to change it.
Making voting more accessible and encouraging more people to vote will destroy any Republican change at winning. Once Republicans can no longer win, then we can talk about other parties.
If only 60% of people vote, Republicans lose. Once it gets to 80% of people, Republicans no longer have any chance at winning. Republicans are less popular the more people that wouldn’t vote before do vote.
Let’s start with constitutionality with voting: let EVERYONE 18+ vote. Inmates, felons, everyone. Then maybe make it compulsory and much easier.

Are you under the impression that Trump isn’t also an old fat and feeble man…
Why are we discussing Trump in a thread about the 2020 primaries?
OP is a paid agent trying to get people not to vote.
All of their posts and comments are about this single issue.
They’re not the only one by any means
Of course not. There are many people paid to do this work and one of the ways their work is measured is by how many people respond to their messaging.
I voted 3rd party in 2016. I voted for Biden in 2020. I’ll be voting 3rd party in 2024.
Do you genuinely believe everyone who says something like that is just a paid shill?
What 3rd party are you voting for?
Removed by mod
Yeah, that’s exactly how totally sincere non-paid-shills react to questions like “who are you voting for?” 😃
Removed by mod
Do you think more people should have showed up in the 2016 general election to vote for HRC? Tell me where you expect to find the opinions of those people on why they didn’t and what would have made them change their minds?
Do you not?
I think the DNC shouldn’t have rigged the primary for Hilary Clinton and they share some of the blame, yes.
I also think that the 2016 election, the ensuing 4 years, and the first risings of genuine fascism in the United States, which now might be coming to a for-real Nazi Germany fruition depending on how things turn out, is about a clear a lesson as you could ask for that “voting for the lesser of two evils” is a valid and sensible choice.
And that conversation is happening plenty. You know what conversation I’m not seeing? The one where we tell the people who voted for Joe Biden in the 2020 primaries they are selfish pieces of shit. If you’re not angry at them for putting us in this position then it doesn’t seem like you actually have a problem with being in this position.
Nobody is going to be convinced not to vote by my posts. I myself will be voting 3rd party.
I do hope to convince people to take a hard look at the 2020 primaries and Joe Biden and ask themselves “Why in the fuck?”
The people who voted for Joe Biden in the 2020 primaries should be ashamed. Refusing to shame them for their stupid, selfish, foolish decision only guarantees the result of the next primary will be no better.
I also hope to convince moderates if they need my vote or the votes of people who feel similarly to me they need to compromise and start telling Joe Biden to stop supporting Israel and promise to veto any attempts to block a rail strike in 2025. Progressives and leftists have compromised enough. It is time for the moderates to meet us in the middle.
Voting third party is just not voting with extra steps.
i agree… everyone who voted republican before should vote third party instead
why are you trying to discourage people from voting?
Reading comprehension doesn’t appear to be your strong suit.
You’re literally calling it voting.
That’s the “extra steps” bit. You’re doing more work for the same result.
not the same result. the candidates they vote for end up with one more vote than otherwise.
Which is meaningless.
So it is voting.
Hey go_go_gadget: Biden needs 1,968 delegates to win the nomination. He currently has 91. I am about to vote in the primary; who should I vote for instead to help the Democrats advance a better candidate?
Since you are, as a genuine left wing person, bringing this up to help the Democrats in November, you’re enthusiastic about the possibility of being able to advance a better candidate, not just shitting on the presumptive nominee (for arguably-valid reasons)?
Right?
People like that gadget dude won’t reply when people stay neutral and ask them to show their intelligence cards. They just flop and hide somewhere to keep spewing more garbage rhetoric. It’s sad really.
I’ve been arguing with the shills (for what reason, I honestly don’t know) extensively enough that I’ve been able to categorize some basic types of low-effort responses they like to use. I call that one the “smoke bomb!”
Some others:
- The “Mission Accomplished” – they announce that you’ve unwittingly exactly proven their point by what you said, and refuse to elaborate.
- The “Chewbacca Defense” – they seize on some logical leap that makes absolutely no sense (and for some reason this one often goes with expressing it really angrily, with insults). This one is a little hard to describe, but some examples are “I can’t be a shill, I had an account on Reddit” or this meme.
- The “Higher Authority” – they claim to be more left than you, therefore your argument is invalid. Often goes along with saying where they’re from or their LGBTQ identity.
It’s like a little safari.
Lol if you get a bunch more you should make some bingo cards for them.
People like that gadget dude won’t reply
Gestures wildly about the post.
The 2020 primaries are over sir. This post is an attempt to get moderates to do some reflection and perhaps come to the conclusion they made a stupid decision voting for him over Warren, Pete, Bernie, Kamala or perhaps just standing back from the primaries completely. Those all would have been better decisions than voting for Biden in the 2020 primaries.
Once they reach that conclusion perhaps then they could be open to the idea that if they want to win the 2024 election they need to compromise with progressives and leftists. Two immediate changes they could call on Biden to make today:
- Stop supporting Israel.
- Promise to veto any attempts to block a rail strike in 2025.
Moderates keep straddling the idea that leftists and progressives are too small to be considered yet have a meltdown when people from these groups discuss voting for a 3rd party. There is a cognitive disconnect there. If our votes are needed they have to compromise with us.
Why are all you assholes making me argue for the Democratic establishment. I hate the Democratic establishment.
Things Joe Biden has done. Things like student loan forgiveness, pardons for federal marijuana convictions, fighting to undo some of Trump’s damage on immigration policy, and so on.
I think we all know that if Joe Biden suddenly broke with 50 years of US policy and started trying to get Israel to stop committing atrocities (which would in fact be fuckin’ wonderful), it would suddenly be some other thing which “progressives and leftists” were so concerned with that they were going to threaten the country with absolute fascist destruction with, unless he started singlehandedly delivering us from our neoliberal hellscape of a governmental system, and if he can’t, then the whole thing is 100% his fault and “we” can’t vote for him.
I like your artful dodge of my question about how to productively move the Democratic party towards actual productive leftwards progress, so that you can claim a tissue-thin veneer of leftism while in actual impact, supporting Trump and the end of democracy in the US.
Okay, I’ll bite. Which third party are you supporting, with your purely left-motivated political stance which will definitely have a productive leftwards impact on the outcome of the election?
Also, which Democrat should I vote for in the primary? Should I write in Elizabeth Warren? Warren was fantastic, I loved her.
I don’t need all that extra stuff.
I just want him to stop sending weapons
I hate the Democratic establishment.
Just not enough to support a conversation about how bad it is and how the people who voted for it in the 2020 primaries are selfish pieces of shit?
I like your artful dodge of my question about how to productively move the Democratic party towards actual productive leftwards progress
By refusing to vote for procorporate, strike blocking, genocide supporting trash in the general election.
By refusing to vote for procorporate, strike blocking, genocide supporting trash in the general election.
If I had one of those Futurama what-if machines, I would like to put you into Joe Biden’s position within our current government, and read you one by one all the Lemmy comments that ensued as a result of what transpired over the following 4 years.
He actually did remarkably well considering. And I would vote for a dead whale if it was running against Donald Trump, because I value self preservation.
This whole “I will not cast a vote that will choose the less hellish of two possible futures, no matter how great the distance betwen the hellish-ness-es” philosophy, that interprets casting a vote as some kind of allegiance that the candidate has to be worthy of, instead of just a lever for choosing what outcome you want, is really conservative-sounding and weird. I’ve literally never looked at elections that way. And again, I voted third party for many many elections when I came of voting age.
I’m not asking for a time machine. There are two things he could do today:
- Stop sending weapons to Israel.
- Vow to veto any attempts to block a rail strike in 2025.
Again, for someone who “hates” the establishment all you’ve said is good things about them. And you’ve said nothing negative about the people who voted for Joe Biden in the 2020 primaries.
- The US’s Israel policy has been shitty for decades.
- You know that Biden’s labor department after the fact kept negotiating with the rail companies and actually got the workers their sick leave, right? I don’t know the full scope of the situation, but this is another of those “sounds good but examine it and it makes 0 sense” bad-faith equivalences between “sure he got the workers what they wanted, but he didn’t seize the means of production, I hate him” and “LET’S SEND THE NATIONAL GUARD AND SHOOT THE FUCKING STRIKERS” or whatever Trump’s solution would have been.
I don’t know why I’m continuing this conversation. We both know that if Biden announced an end to aid for Israel tomorrow, you’d be suddenly up in arms over the fact that he’s old, or that he didn’t block the LNG exports fast enough, or something else. The fact that you have to go all the way back to the rail strike to find something kinda-recent he did that was kinda-bad, and that every one of your comrades seems to like to cite that one incident while explaining that like Good Americans you won’t be voting for him in November, says quite a bit.
Again, for someone who “hates” the establishment all you’ve said is good things about them.
- “the DNC shouldn’t have rigged the primary for Hilary Clinton and they share some of the blame, yes.”
- “Oil extraction and Gaza”
- “Yes, the system is rigged. The rich people are in control and steering the bus towards the cliff.”
- “Continuing to work for genuine reform is necessary if any survivable society is going to continue on earth beyond this generation.”
- “I would love a landscape where Biden is the weird right-wing outlier because we have left-wing candidates in the ring”
That’s just from a quick glance over the first page of my profile. I mean, we both know why you’re pretending to be confused by “I don’t want a fascist hellscape” as my motivation, but I think it’s worth reiterating that not-total-CNN-watchers might also want to not live in a Trumpian fascist hellscape.

For me, the worst aspect of the 2020 primary was Biden declaring victory after South Carolina…
Yeah, how did that turn out again?
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/2020_United_States_presidential_election_in_South_Carolina
Red states have no business picking Democratic candidates.
If you’re going to go that route, let Massachusetts decide who the Republican candidate should be.
I was on the phone with my mom earlier and I said something about Biden being a potato. She got so upset and began telling me how bad Trump is… smh.
I know he’s a shit stain, but that doesn’t magically make his opposition amazing.
People will celebrate when Biden wins 2024 and then shocked pikachu when nothing fucking changes because they think Biden’s a Good Guy™ and there’s no more work to be done once their ballot is in the box.
It’s infuriating.
