Penny-pinching generation has a knock-on effect on the nighttime economy
I have noticed that other gen-z drink less, and weed seems to be the more popular thing among other observations. Maybe Gen-Z is less social and less willing to go outside and talk as well as there are more things bars have to compete with, but more than anything I feel largest factor is that the costs of living are squeezing the youth and this is an example of its effects.
It might also be the increased digital connectivity that has come with advances in bandwidth and data sizes.
Edit: great magazine by the way, this is the first time I’ve seen it.
That’s also what bars have to compete with, other forms of entertainment. I found that gen z, and quite frankly everyone else is glued to these phones even in social situations. I found it strange going to house parties or any other kinds of social events people are looking down at their phones all the time. I’m also a smart phone addict too, so.
Good point. Everyone does it but it’s more marked in Z perhaps.
I have a series of photos I took after a funeral, where all the different generations are talking/comiserating and eating, but there’s one room where all the GenZ have congregated and they’re all sitting looking at their phones.
I just thought of another aspect, the rise of more nuanced dating aps. When I was young I basically had to go out all the time to find/meet a potential mate.
