The funny part is that if you are actually old enough to have the experience they ‘require’, and look like the distinguished gentleman in the meme, well, it turns out you are too old and feeble to be considered a good fit for the position what with all the health problems age brings…

Kind of reminds me of the early 2000s where some recruiter or HR rep would be adamant that you have 5+ years of C# experience even though it had only been out for 3 years (released in 2001). No use trying to explain that to them though.

Tbf, if a job posting like that goes out, that is not a company you want to work for. It’s a lot more rare for that scenario. The more problematic situation is a bunch of companies simply wanting years of experience but for entry level jobs with entry level pay.

Reminds me of that tweet where the creator of a software asked the recruiter if less experience would be accepted (given they were asking 4 years experience on a 2 year old software) and the recruiter said no

I have read from the creator of a framework who went to an Interview where skills in that framework were needed. He failed because he didn’t knew enough.

My old boss would’ve said “That’s no excuse! You’ve just gotta put yourself out there!”

In IT, it’s sometimes hilarious. You’ll see some people asking for 10+ years experience in a software that’s not even been out for 5 years.

All the years of experience is just arbitrary because HR people just put something down that sounds good rather than exploring the merits of each candidate.

The problem is, in the US, both the employer and prospective employee are doing a dance of lies, and employers are always more practiced, more enthusiastic, and less hesitant liars.

They genuinely see their lying as somehow noble. The same way they view their greed “rational self-interest.”

Yep can confirm looking for jobs sucked ass. As long as you don’t give up, it’s not your failure! That’s what I had to tell myself for a whole year.
