eBay hit with $3M fine, admits to “terrorizing innocent people”
eBay must pay maximum fine for putting Massachusetts couple “through pure hell.”
@arstechnica@mastodon.social what in the goddamn
@arstechnica@mastodon.social holy shit. Yeah, corporate tech culture’s real problem is WFH…
@arstechnica@mastodon.social this is so unhinged
@arstechnica@mastodon.social It is unfathomable to me that actual human adults in the 21st century could do this. How can you engage in behavior like this and simultaneously have any mental conspiring of yourself as being ok? #AdultsBehavingBadly

The harassment “included ‘sending anonymous and disturbing deliveries,’ such as ‘a book on surviving the death of a spouse, a bloody pig mask, a fetal pig and a funeral wreath and live insects,’ the DOJ said. The intimidation also included publishing a series of ‘Craigslist posts inviting the public for sexual encounters at the victims’ home.’”“eBay employees escalated the criminal activity by traveling to Massachusetts and installing a GPS tracker on the Steiners’ car.”

3 million…well thank Dog that they are going to really feel that couch change of a fine. Meanwhile the folks who did this get away with next level BS.

Simple alt text:A colorful eBay sign is prominently displayed in front of a building with glass windows and metal pillars, surrounded by greenery. The eBay logo consists of four letters in different colors: red, blue, yellow, and green.
@arstechnica@mastodon.social wat. This is a crazy story.
@arstechnica@mastodon.social That’s horrible! That’s one of many reasons never to use eBay. Hope these people are all right, now.
@arstechnica@mastodon.social What on earth could conceivably justify the actions of these eBay employees in doing this?
What on earth was the provocation? I had a quick look at https://www.ecommercebytes.com/ but can’t see a trigger.
It’s as if they just randomly picked someone who was posting constructive feedback about eBay, then went on the attack.
I ditched them years ago, so this does not affect me directly… but this is truly appalling behaviour by those employees.
@arstechnica@mastodon.social What the actual fuck?
