A million, eh? I’ll be impressed if they number much more than a hundred, and surprised if they outnumber the counter-protesters. But this is the kind of protest The News loves to report on, so we’re all hearing about it before it even happens.

CTV NewsNet is reporting live in Ottawa and said that there are only “hundreds” of protesters and counter-protesters altogether.

Their goal was to get 1 million across all of Canada, not just in one place.

I live in SK, and based on what I what I saw, I would not be surprised if there were between 100-200 people at the pro-“making kids homeless by outing them to their parents” demonstration at my town.

They’re still not going to hit a million, but probably a more than a couple thousand.

    …to protest the teaching of 2SLGBTQ+ issues…

The ‘2’ and the ‘S’ are new to me. When were they added, and what do they represent?

Two-Spirited is an Indigenous term for someone who isn’t hetero.

      From https://www.verywellmind.com/what-is-the-two-spirit-community-5089204:

" “Two Spirit” is an umbrella term that is meant to unify various gender identities and expressions among Indigenous, Native American, Alaskan Native, and First Nations people.

It does not refer to a specific gender and is instead a catch-all term that represents a wide variety of people who don’t fit in with the traditional gender binary."

Makes sense in hindsight. Only bigots would try to twist the… well, “brand identity”, for lack of a better phrase, of a group they hate.
There’s probably a less corporate sounding version of those words, but I can’t currently think of them.

Only a conservative would throw their hands up at new information and decide that all hope is lost.

The ability to process new information is lost on conservatives.

When did we as a society allow aggressive stupidity to masquerade as a legitimate political ideology?

I think conservatives trouble learning about queer stuff is much like how i had trouble with math.

It started out easy with the fundamentals, but somewhere down the line I got tripped up on something and before I could figure out where I went wrong in my understanding we moved on to more complicated things.

So now I, much like them, throw up our arms and say “What the hell is this weird letter doing here!”

My thanks to said fascist. Skimming through that video gives some idea of what went down in Pickering (Ontario, population 100k), which would otherwise be impossible to get without investing way more effort than it’s worth. Looks like they had more success there than in Ottawa.

Can people just stop pushing their views and ideology on others already…I don’t care. I don’t care that you hate trans, I don’t care that you are trans.

Live your life and stop pushing your shit on others. I’m sick of everyone’s views. Don’t talk to me about it. I really, don’t, care. U less you’re actively being harassed or attacked, it doesn’t matter. Just live your life.

This goes for BOTH ‘sides’ of everything. People’s voices are too damn loud these days.

Yes, that’s literally the issue. One ‘side’ here doesn’t want to be harassed or attacked the other side wants to do the harassing and attacking. These are not the same.

On the face of it this libertarian argument makes sense: mind your own business.

In the real world these non hetero people are murdered, beaten, harassed. So teaching acceptance of these groups is the way that we can get to “just live your life”.

Protesting teaching this is the opposite of that: forcing your views on others.

By your own logic you should be rabidly supporting the teaching and acceptance of these views so we can all get back to living our own lives.

The anti-gay movement never stopped. It seemed like people would finally accept that gay people exist and stop discriminating against them in the 90s when homosexuality started to get institutional acceptance and mainstream representation in media. This societal acceptance did tamp down public expressions of anti-gay hate. Unfortunately, the far right never accepted them. Knuckleheads love Trumpism because Trump and his ilk made it semi-acceptable to express hate in public again. You can’t blame the gays for coming out to counter-protest those who want to stuff them back in the closet. This isn’t really a “both sides” issue. Everyone knows darn well that the gays are a historically oppressed group. They still have to constantly stand up for themselves against people who still hate them and try to demonize or exclude them, or else their status may degrade back to the way it was pre-90s.

People being trans isn’t a political topic except as a response to bigots making it one. Acting like people just existing is political is putting them blame on them for existing.

Complain about the people who are making people existing a political topic instead of the topic itself.

The anti-SOGI people don’t want queer people to exist. More specifically, they don’t want their kids to be queer.

The pro-SOGI people want queer people to live and thrive. That’s it. I’d like to live my life without being hated for who I am. It’s not about “politics” — the anti people don’t want me to exist.

The reason it was “loud” today was because a bunch of homophobes and transphobes decided to have a hate parade across the country. If there was no march planned by the anti-SOGI people, it would have been a quiet Wednesday.

Not just today, I’m talking everywhere. Online or offline. It’s just too in my face political everything. Worst part, you say anything seemingly negative and people assume you’re a convoy idiot or whatever and want others gone. I’m far from it, just tired. Can’t have honest discussions because people instantly label left Or right, or for/against. I’m the most neutral there is. Sad times. I’ll keep just hiding from the world till it settles.

I don’t personally know what sogi is.

Scroll past, then, or educate yourself. Saying that you’re not interested in the topic while also saying that you don’t know what it is… why are you even here? Why are you adding to the political discourse by saying that you don’t want people to engage in political discourse? Good grief.

“U less you’re actively being harassed or attacked, it doesn’t matter.”

That is literally the point though. Homophobes and transphobes are literally physically attacking, murdering, harassing, and legislating the rights away from 2SLGBTQ+ people. Either you are being willfully ignorant, or you’re on the side of those doing the oppressing. There is no both sides to this. To be clear, you are on the side of the oppressors if you believe this.
