2010 Gti mk6 120,000kms done. This was after a service at Volkswagen and their quote. Obviously going to take it to a local mechanic i just wished they explained it better. I know whatva camshaft is but not buckets and engine cylinder head? They also mentioned trouble with the turbo intake. And that they found alot of silicone under the camshaft from a previous job before i owned the car. I also asked if it was safe to drive and how long until the car is gone and they couldn’t estimate. Can anyone tell me abit more about my problem, what exactly is it, what will it need and costs?
I would get a second opinion. That seems really high.
$17,800 !?
Sounds like a normal failure on a MK6 GTI. The price is ridiculous amount because it’s a dealership.
You got fuked hard there bud
I’m sorry, what are ‘buckets’??? That’s an overhead cam engine, so no rockers…so what are buckets?
They mean the hydraulic lifters. Often called buckets because of their form. They sit between valve and camshaft.
Gotcha. Always called them ‘followers’.
Stealerships are called stealerships for a reason
