I have a 2010 Scion tc with 220,000 miles. My tensioner bearing is going bad so I need to replace it. I don’t have a ton of extra cash and I also need to replace the alternator (bad bearing) and of course the belt. On rock auto there is a tensioner (in picture) for $55. The “standard replacement” options are about double the price.
If I want to drive this car to 300,000 miles will I make it with the economy option or am I at risk of belt slippage or worse?
Can’t u just buy the bearing ?
How nice do those cars drive? Im gonna ask my dad for a new car and those cars i can find for around $6k on marketplace. I currently drive a 98 corolla
Ride comfort? Not spectacular but what you would expect for a lower car with a short wheel base.
The good thing about them is they are fun especially if you get it with a stick and it starts every time cause it’s just a Camry engine.
Just don’t drive it like an ass like people expect Scion tc drivers to.
The cheapest rock auto part with a heart next to it has never let me down!
Get the one with the red heart
One thing you definitely shouldn’t cheap out on is electronics, sensors, and engine internals. But the tensioner, sure
You’re fine to cheap out on a belt tensioner, just don’t cheap out on crucial items like timing belt kit.
The cheap tensioner should be fine. I’ve been through 3 cheap timing chains. The timing kit for my car, that is OE, is $345. But the other day, I just noticed they have just the OE chain for like $69 or something like that. I’m going to have to order that and change it one day.
