It’s official, red alerts have gone out across the entire country of Brazil as the heat index hits 137F. The high temperature combined with humidity has made it impossible for most people to carry out their normal lives. There’s already reports of power outages. People can’t work. They can’t run errands. They can barely sleep. It’s not even summer there yet.
They actually said this would happen.
And yet, we go directly to our graves.
It seems we want to be dead.
It’s a prisoner’s dilemma; you’ll be dead even faster if you’re the first to fight back.
Look to the people who said this. They are calling for revolution, I think we have to start seriously organizing for it this time.
I was talking about scientists saying that climate change will heat up the planet.
Scientists told us long ago that we need to cut fossil fuels or the planet would heat up. And now it has.
Yeah, let’s burn some more rain forest and see whether it helps.
It definitely doesn’t help but it’s not the reason either
What is extremely sad is that Brazil has relatively very low emission and consumption rates
The rich dicks around, the poor pays the price
Per capital sucks for these stats but the rainforest isn’t about contributing CO2 it’s about capturing it
Bloody Africa, not providing any data.
And who knows what Greenland’s up too 🤨
Burn forest, plant fields, too hot for fields, … ., no profits!
What the fuck? I didn’t realize Brazil was going full oven mode

They’re not, the source being “okdoomer.io” doesn’t lend to much credibility. 14 day forecast currently has a “feels like” high of 42 once or twice on weather.ca
Red alerts have been issued for almost 3,000 towns and cities across Brazil, which have been experiencing an unprecedented heatwave.
Rio de Janeiro recorded 42.5C on Sunday - a record for November - and high humidity on Tuesday meant that it felt like 58.5C, municipal authorities said.
More than a hundred million people have been affected by the heat, which is expected to last until at least Friday.

I think what matters here is that the humidity makes this a wet bulb or something similar to a wet bulb instead of actually an oven. It’s super doom but it’s a slightly different and honestly worse kind.
They have clearly linked their source as BBC. Also, pretty much all major publications have reported on it. Here’s a report by AP: https://apnews.com/article/brazil-heat-wave-climate-environment-wildfires-1e4714fb2c6566120c13cf4e2b657f7d
We definitely are! It’s been a week since I got some sleep … It’s been 37°C to 40°C every day in my city and most people don’t even have AC… I don’t…
Which is also already deadly.

Royal Society fellow Daniel Fahrenheit consents to the use of his preluding temperature scale.
Fucking Murika making shit harder for everyone
Yeah like I don’t know how many swimming pools worth of heat it is
All hail market capitalism!
Turns out muh free market IS the solution to all human crises.
Can’t have human crises without humans, after all.
Thanks for the comment. I said everything I think and I won’t have to rewrite the same thing.

When India/China run out of water from the mountains it is going to be really fun
How the fuck did this article go from heat in Brazil to long covid research without any fucking bridge 🥲
I mean, I somewhat agree with the points its making and I’m heavily doubting the validity. When someone is not willing to further their own confirmation bias you really need to start asking questions.
Seems like a load of bullshit. This is the only article about it, and it’s from… okdoomer.io?
Lol. Where are the mods?
Oh. This is the smaller world news. My bad.
Also on the shittiest large instance, lemmy.ml
Human blood should start cooking at 60°C if I remember well.
It’s November tho…Does Brazil not have a winter?
Southern Hemisphere. It’s late spring there.
A lot of Brazil is in the tropics, so no, not winter kinda latitudes.
But Brazil also extends to something like 33° South, where winter starts in June.
Hmm, interesting 🤔
Winter in Brazil if from june to september, but honestly though it feels like there is one or two weeks of cold and the rest is just as hot as any day. I remember a year where I didn’t wear long sleeved shirts or coats at all.
