Very happy for EU users. I personally don’t intend on using third party app stores, but I do believe that this will create pressure on Apple to make their app pricing model more competitive.
I know epic only wants to do things that piss Apple off now.
So I wonder if they’ll bring Fortnite back through side loading only because they know being able to show off their app not giving Apple a single dime will piss be a thorn in Apple’s side.
This thread compromises about 60% of the total worldwide population that would ever care about side loading
What if you fly in and out of the EU?
It’s hilarious how everyone is cheering for sideloading, just wait till Facebook begins to ask mandatory sideloading for info collection, and mass security breach. But yeah, you can get emulators and porns now, hooray, fuck privacy right?

What if I am an EU citizen living abroad? The DMA should still apply to me.
I wonder that if it proves popular in the EU (suspect it won’t be) that it’ll be used as leverage to change the rules elsewhere. For the most part I’ve never been that bothered about it other than it would be nice to run retro emulators on my phone as I’ve never liked modern video games.
So how are they going to enforce this? I understand countryd will geolock things, but what about EU citizens abroad or EU citizens traveling? The EU laws are clear that EU CITIZENS are allowed these rights not just when they’re within boarders.
It would make iPhone experience worse
It’s your choice if you want to make it worse. You’re not forced to sideload.
I’ll stay on Android until this comes to North America.
Welcome to 2008!!
I wonder if Apple can legally avoid warranties for side loading an app.
It seems like they logically would be able to, since you theoretically could sideload an app that damages your phone. And they have no control over that.
You can’t void the warranty (in the EU) with a software installation, only for problems related to that software.
Yeah, no… it doesn’t work that way.
They can’t void warranties for people installing third party apps but if that app bricks their device, that wouldn’t be covered by warranty.
Looking forward to the day this is made available everywhere! It’s ridiculous to geolock major features like this.
Could this mean that I would be able to sideload Apollo without expiration?
Install yes, use no. The entire point of the shutdown was Reddit killing these applications’ API access
You can still use Apollo. I’m using it right now with my own API key.
