The best time to plant a tree was twenty years ago. The second best is now.
There’s 8 inches of snow on the ground.
I did what I could.
Went to rallies, worked at a non profit to help the homeless, overcame my own disability to do so, explained to those I was close to how this outcome we are now living through is possible, then probable, then very likely.
Meanwhile, all my friends and family either fell further into the QAnon/MAGA cult, or acted like I was a hysterical, delusional, paranoid maniac.
All those bridges have been burned now, the immense disrespect and gaslighting shown by both sides, simultaneously, from opposite extremes, did a great job of alienating me from myself and from them.
I’ll never speak to any of them of them again, all the catharsis I get is this here rant saying that they were and are the delusional ones, that I was right… as everything falls further and more rapidly into terminal decline.
Oh well, I guess.
At least I have my own self-respect.
Classic America … they love to live the fantasy of fighting against fascism and fighting for democracy and the common people in movies … but do the exact opposite in real life.
They treat doing the right thing like its some sort of fanciful make believe idea that only exists in movies, comics and fiction.
It’s dangerous to view America as a monolith
It’s so much more complicated than “Americans secretly bad, Americans too dumb too…”. a 40-50 year long effort of erosion by the wealthy, Christian elite, Republican governance, Gerry meandering, single issue voting, and so many other factors.
It’s damn class war behind a curtain. The rest of the world is susceptible to the same playbook
I agree because I’m in Canada and we suffer from the same things as you do. But the thing is that year in and year out, the majority of the time no matter what issue may be happening, everyone just had a short attention span and memory that they vote for leaders that won’t, can’t or don’t want to serve their best interests. Conservatives have a long track record of not helping people and making common people’s lives worse but they keep getting elected and no matter how much i may argue with my Conservative family and friends they can’t or don’t want to face that fact. I keep voting and supporting the left party … but the center party definitely not the right … the left. Even as we’re losing and we get laughed at, I’ll always vote left. I’m not joining in the stupidity so I feel comfortable when I point it out.
Right so many people can’t even parse through obvious right-wing wedge-driving astroturfing to get off their ass and vote for the alternative candidate.
Now they’re going to make memes about taking the fight to fascism? lol, sure. Maybe after their Mountain Dew and CoD session.
Hey, I didn’t vote because (*checks notes*) . . oh yeah, dEmOcrAtS loVe gEnOciDe!
We’re still blaming the people supporting Gaza when that’s been debunked, huh. Voter turnout this election was the 2nd highest it has been in the history of American elections, and the reason it decreased was because of Covid mail-in ballot initiatives from 2020 not carrying over into 2024.
You’re literally falling for the wedge issues on social media the OP was mentioning.
“Debunked?” no. Heck in this very thread people will chime in about how they didnt’ vote for that reason. Or any others.
Anecdotal evidence in a place full of bad actors is enough to justify genocide, got it. Then I’ll say I’m pro-Palestine and I voted Harris/Walz. That counts as much as analysis from actual Democratic Party pundits, right?
Ignore the huge Latino demographic shifts to Trump, the younger demographic shifts to Trump, or how both white males and white females majority voted for Trump, and how Israel/Palestine didn’t even make top 5 issues voters cared about. The 89 million eligible voters that sat out was because they care about Gaza, and not something that happens every election anyway.
People on Lemmy complain about bots on social media and then get duped by the same tactics.
Ignore the huge Latino demographic shifts to Trump,
10% higher than 2020. bigly. Propaganda works.
the younger demographic shifts to Trump
[Young people’s electoral participation dropped notably in 2024. After historically high youth voter turnout of over 50% in the 2020 presidential contest, our early estimate is that 42% of youth (ages 18-29) voted in 2024.](https://circle.tufts.edu/latest-research/2024-poll-barriers-issues-economy)
a 6% drop. And those that did turn out to vote chose Harris but only by 4%. Which indicates you lefty kids stayed home this time. Which is the thesis in question.
and how Israel/Palestine didn’t even make top 5 issues voters cared about.
Was that from the exit polling? Because that would follow.
The new thread that I love is “Gaza voters didn’t matter, so you’re getting mad over nothing” but also, the same people saying “If the Dems had just not supported genocide, we would have won!”

And none of them mattered. You’re barking after 1% of potential voters, and ignoring all the rest. That 1% might not have even been in key areas, making their dissent 100% pointless.
And none of them mattered.
Wrong.
The entire world is shifting right not just America.
… being SHIFTED to the right
Common every day people don’t consciously vote for or support right wing conservatives who won’t support people but instead build up the already massive wealth of massively wealthy people. If people could just see through all that crap, we’d have a different political landscape. But the means of communications are also owned and operated by those people who want a right wing shift. People don’t really want conservatism, especially in finance and social economics … they want a sharing of the wealth, a chance at making a bit of money, a chance at saving their money and in taking some of the excessive wealth from the wealthy who don’t need it and distributing it to everyone else. When you have a TV blaring at you, internet advertising, radio broadcasts, podcasts, marketing, newspapers, magazines telling you every single day and hour that conservatism is what you want … chances are that is what you will think.
Poland for example shifted to the left (or at least democracy).
Oh man, so many failed time of actions.
2010 midterm was a pivotal time of action.
2004 was a time of action.
2000 was a time of action when Bush actually lost.
The only times we kind of sort of rose to the occasion was 2020 and 2022. By 2024 we already lost the thread lol.
They have to be killed.
