Better idea…reshoot the movie with all the same actors and the exact same script.
Kinda doubt Bill Murray would be on board with such a cheap stunt. Pretty sure he’s moved on to cheaper, less prestigious, worse paying stunts by this point in his illustrious career. (I kid, kinda.)
Besides, Harold Ramis is dead and Michael Shannon is kind of a big deal, now.Whoooooa, TIL Michael Shannon was in Groundhog Day! He only came on my radar after watching the movie Take Shelter, then he really stuck with me.

Apparently he’s in the Carolinas these days.
Or just insert a few scenes with Bill Murray and Annie McDowell at the age they are now, to show how long he was stuck in there.
Have you seen the movie? How does that make sense? It was a time loop, i.e. no aging.
The sequel is a time loop, with aging.
Duh.
Like Cruel Intentions 2?
They could add in some new ways he spent the time. Like the pool hall deleted scene that conveys how long he was in the loop.
Ah, the endless 8 approach.

I went to a double feature at my local theater. Groundhog Day followed by Groundhog day.
Here is an alternative Piped link(s):
With “It’s not unusual” playing in the middle.

I’ve joked that if they made Spaceballs 2 they need to release it on VHS before it comes out in theaters.
It’s what we’re watching now
When will then be now? Soon.
This is a perfect idea.
there should be a new version of that film released every year on Feb 2… it should be a tradition…
If they did, it would be over Harold Ramis’ dead body.
Genuinely, could they do that? Would there be any legal or logistical obstacles?
Not a lawyer but I don’t see any legal obstacles as long as they only use the footage and nothing else from the original film. Put a different name on it too.
Morally though, it’s funny but also a complete cash-grab.
Everyone that earned money from the first release would earn money on a new release.
But wouldn’t the new release be a unique entity, so therefore it’d be no different than if it was another film?
I own Groundhogs Day, and I would gladly buy this.
They should include a scene where he holds Seth Green over a trashcan by his ankles this time lol
