I wonder why Israel ignored the information that Egypt gave them, warning them about the attack?

I’m sure an embattled, ultranationalist racist like Bibi, whose own populace has been demonstrating against him for months, surely wouldn’t sacrifice some of his own to create an opportunity like this… /s

“Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity.” (or being very full of oneself)

Hanlon’s Razor is about guarding against unlikely explanations, not discarding explanations that actually fit with a pattern of behavior. Literally anything can be attributed to stupidity if you try.

Bibi has been supportive of and overseeing the murder of Palestinians for decades, and ignoring and suppressing moderate, non-Zionist Jews in Israel, but this one time malice is the less likely explanation? Nah.

  • a) We were pretty sure the Israeli administration wanted high collateral engagement and their troops were eager to carry it out.

    b) It plays right into the hands of Hamas leadership.

Israel’s government and Hamas finally both get what they really wanted, civilian casualties to blame on each other to rally for increased military support.

What the hell kind of response and way of thinking is this? You were just told “hundreds of children were killed” and your response is “yeah, but how many innocents did the people living in the same area as those children kill?”

Not only is your comment propagating the fucked up idea that children should pay for the crimes of their parents, but it’s also quite racist/xenophobic (“they live in the same area, so they/their parents must be just like the rest of them!”).

Perhaps there’s something going over my head, but the more I read it, the more it just sounds like a really fucked up comment to me.

When I saw this comment, I didn’t parse it 'cause it wasn’t obvious to me what they were trying to say. Now that you’ve unpacked it, it’s much more clear, and yes, completely fucked. Thanks for calling them out.

I’m not saying that children should pay the price, nor am i supporting any kind of war against civilians. I’m just annoyed by the extreme one-sided news articles and comments here on lemmy to this complex matter.

The one sidedness is a balance to the other one sidedness of traditional media and politicians. Aside from that most comments I see on Lemmy are correctly saying that both sides are equally bad.
